Recognized as a high-levelcultivated discipline in Shandong Province and a regional medical center for specialized stomatology, the school is a key discipline in medical and health sciences in Shandong Province, a provincial clinical key specialty, a peak discipline in Qingdao, and an A-class key discipline in medical and health sciences in Qingdao. From 2018 to 2022, the discipline's influence ranked 20th on average in the China Science and Technology Rankings. From 2015 to 2022, it consistently appeared in the Fudan Ranking of East China Regional Reputation for Stomatology. In 2022 and 2023, it ranked 201-300 in the "Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" and 16-24 nationally.
The school has established high-quality platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Oral Clinical Medicine and Medical Biomaterials of Shandong Province, the Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Tissue Repair and Translational Medicine of Shandong Province, the Qingdao Oral Digital Medicine and 3D Printing Engineering Laboratory, and the Qingdao Oral Medical Biomaterials Technology Innovation Center. It was the first in Shandong to be approved as a national-level clinical drug trial base for stomatology and has conducted large-scale national multicenter drug and medical device clinical trials. It is the only institution in Shandong qualified for national-level multicenter clinical research on oral stem cells. The school serves as a joint training base for graduate education with Peking University School of Stomatology and Shandong Province and is a sub-center for numerous national clinical research centers for oral diseases, including collaborations with the National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials and Digital Diagnostic Equipment of Peking University and the Translational Research Center for Biomaterials of Sichuan University.
The school places great emphasis on faculty development, with significant investment and policy support to build a high-level faculty with strong morals, excellent qualities, innovative spirit, and international perspectives. The faculty consists of 118 members, including 17 doctoral supervisors and 43 master's supervisors. More than 30 faculty members have over six months of overseas study experience, 63.30% are under 45 years old, 95.16% hold master's degrees, and 80.10% hold doctoral degrees. Senior titles account for 74.31%. The school has introduced two high-level expert teams and hired one overseas distinguished professor. The faculty includes 12 terms as standing committee members and 33 terms as committee members on national academic committees, with 8 recognized as high-level talents at the national and provincial levels. Currently, there are two postdoctoral supervisors at Qingdao University, and in the past three years, the clinical medicine postdoctoral research station has admitted 10 postdoctoral fellows. The department, a member of the Ministry of Education's Steering Committee for Higher Education in Stomatology, has consistently focused on cultivating top-tier stomatology talents, training over 200 outstanding PhD candidates, master's degree candidates, and postdoctoral fellows in the past five years. The school enrolls 40-45 undergraduate students, 40-45 master's degree candidates, and 9-12 PhD candidates annually. Aiming to cultivate dental professionals with strong national sentiment and excellent job competence, the school has actively promoted teaching reforms and continuously innovated teaching models in recent years. The quality of undergraduate education has significantly improved: since 2016, the average pass rate for the dental licensing exam for full-time dental graduates is 87.77%, with a 100% pass rate in 2021, far exceeding the national average. In the past five years, the pass rates for standardized residency training and licensing exams have ranked first in the province.
The school has a 3,000-square-meter state-of-the-art dental teaching experiment center with 24 specialized teaching and innovation laboratories, including three simulation head model labs with 74 simulation heads and eight dental skills training and real-time assessment systems. The ratio of simulation heads to students is 1.68:1. The center also includes a virtual simulation lab with 10 virtual dental teaching devices, a dental clinical skills training room with 21 dental chairs for daily teaching practice, three PBL classrooms, and various other facilities such as a model-making room, a sectional anatomy training room, an oral and maxillofacial surgery teaching lab, a CPR teaching room, and a student innovation and entrepreneurship development platform. The school provides an average of 14.15 square meters per student, with over 800 pieces of equipment valued at over 29 million yuan. It is the Qingdao University Cross-Research Center for Oral and Translational Medicine and the Joint Training Base for Translational Medicine and Dental Graduate Students. The school has dedicated research laboratories for dentistry, oral pathology, and cytology, providing strong support for undergraduate and graduate practical skills training and high-level innovative research.
The school actively integrates into the national "Healthy China" strategy, focusing on the actual needs of dental clinical practice. It emphasizes interdisciplinary research in chemistry, materials science, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, using advanced biomaterials to conduct fundamental and applied research in biomaterial interfaces and stem cell interactions, disease diagnosis, controlled drug release systems, hemostasis, antibacterial properties, and tissue repair and regeneration. In the past five years, the school has received 85 research project approvals with total funding of nearly 50 million yuan, published over 300 high-level papers, and won over 60 awards. The research and innovation projects of graduate and undergraduate students have achieved breakthroughs, with seven national-level projects, two provincial-level projects, and 27 university-level projects under the National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. The school has won national, provincial, and university-level special and first prizes in the "Challenge Cup" competition, provincial bronze awards and university-level gold, bronze, and excellence awards in the "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and numerous gold, silver, and bronze awards in the University Student Science and Technology Innovation Competition. In recent years, undergraduates have published eight high-level papers as first authors. Student participation and awards in various competitions have increased annually, with 12 national awards for oral health science popularization work.
The school has established long-term cooperative relationships with the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong, Radboud University in the Netherlands, University of the Republic Uruguayand Nagasaki University in Japan, conducting substantial work in talent training, academic exchanges, and scientific research cooperation to further leverage mutual advantages, deepen collaboration, and seek common development. In the past five years, 48 faculty and students have been sent abroad for further study, the school has hosted multiple international and domestic academic conferences, and over 50 renowned scholars and experts from home and abroad have been invited for exchanges. Additionally, the school has formed alliances and long-term cooperation with top domestic dental schools such as Peking University School of Stomatology, West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Stomatology, and Air Force Medical University School of Stomatology, collaborating closely in various aspects including discipline development, professional construction, talent cultivation, laboratory construction and management, and teaching reform.
