The history of medical education at Qingdao University is intertwined with the city of Qingdao.Therootsof Qingdao University's medical education can be traced back to 1909 with thefoundingof the Qingdao Special Higher Medical School, also known as the German-Chinese Special Higher Medical School. In 1946, Shandong University Medical College wasestablished.By1956, Shandong University Medical Collegegainedindependenceandevolved intoQingdao Medical College, one ofChina’searliest 36 higher medical institutions. In 1993, Qingdao Medical College merged with Qingdao University, Shandong Textile Engineering Institute, and Qingdao Normal School to form the new Qingdao University. In December 2015, Qingdao Universityreorganizeditsacademicand researchdepartmentsto establish the Medical College of Qingdao University. In October 2020, the Qingdao Municipal Government and Qingdao University jointly established the Qingdao University Qingdao Medical College.
Qingdao Medical College of Qingdao University is among the first batch of higher medical institutions approved by the State Council to confer master's degrees. It is a pilot institution for the Ministry of Education's Excellent Doctor Training Program, a National Basic Medical Teaching Demonstration Center, a Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Center, and a National-level Talent Cultivation Mode Innovation Experimental Zone.
