The pharmacy discipline at Qingdao University originated in 1946 with the establishment of the Pharmacology Department at Shandong University Medical College. Over 70 years of heritage and innovative development have led to significant milestones: in 2006, 2018, and 2019, it was approved for master's and doctoral degree authorization points and a post-doctoral research station, respectively. This has established a comprehensive "bachelor's-master's-doctorate-post-doctorate" pharmacy talent cultivation system. Additionally, the discipline offers professional master's degrees in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Engineering. In 2019, the discipline's "Pharmacology and Toxicology" entered the top 1% globally, ranked 46th in the 2019 Shanghai Ranking's Best Chinese Subjects, and was approved as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program in Pharmacy in 2020.
The current faculty consists of 52 members, with 94.2% holding doctoral degrees and 62.5% having overseas study experience. The team includes4national high-level leading talents,8Taishan Scholars, and1provincial top talent. The discipline boasts6research platforms, including "Central and Local Co-constructed Laboratories" and the "Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Marine Drug Innovation." The pharmacy discipline is committed to cultivating innovative professionals with strong moral character, solid theoretical knowledge, and professional skills. Currently, there are 389 undergraduates, 110 master's students, and 14 doctoral students enrolled. The academic achievements of graduate students are noteworthy, with three receiving the Shandong Provincial Excellent Master's Thesis award and 21 receiving the Qingdao University Excellent Master's Thesis award. Historically, the discipline has achieved top rankings in theUniversity Postgraduate Examination Pass Rates, employment rates, and professional relevance, receiving high praise from employers for the quality of student training.
In the past five years, the discipline has secured 33 national-level research projects, 42 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, and 13 horizontal projects, with over 25 million yuan in vertical research funding. It has published over 500 academic papers, including 376 SCI-indexed papers, and has been granted 43 invention patents. The discipline has received 19 provincial and municipal scientific research awards.
Leveraging its high-level talent-led innovation and entrepreneurship team and comprising both senior and young academic backbones, the discipline emphasizes original innovation, the integration of production, education, and research, and the transformation of research achievements. It actively engages in innovative drug development and social services, collaborating with over 50 biopharmaceutical technology companies in the Qingdao Pharmaceutical Industrial Park. Additionally, it has provided technical services and conducted cooperative research with several domestic pharmaceutical companies, including Shanghai Simcere Pharmaceutical Group and Shandong New Era Pharmaceutical Group.
Over the past five years, the discipline has hosted 191 academic lectures by domestic and international experts and scholars. Through participation in international and domestic academic conferences, advanced training for young talents, and scientific cooperation, it has established long-term cooperative relationships with institutions such as the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Harvard Medical School. In 2017, the discipline hosted the "6th International Ion Channel Academic Conference" in Qingdao, attracting nearly 400 scholars, including academicians and experts from home and abroad, significantly enhancing talent recruitment and the international reputation of the discipline.
