On the morning of July 1st, Deputy Minister of the Medical College, Ren He (presiding), and Deputy Minister Li Bing, along with leaders of the Office of Scientific Research and Undergraduate Studies, and the Research and Foreign Affairs Office of the Affiliated Hospital, visited the School of Foreign Languages. They held a special discussion with the Party and administrative leaders and relevant teachers of the School of Foreign Languages on the construction plan of Medical Spanish Courses and Medical Corpora. The meeting was presided over by Dean Bian Jianhua of the School of Foreign Languages, with Secretary Chen Chongyan of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, other leadership team members, and teachers from various offices, as well as Spanish language teachers in attendance.
On November 23, 2023, President Xi Jinping and President Luis Lacalle Pou of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay signed a joint declaration to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The agreement stated that the two countries are willing to actively promote the construction of a China-Uruguay Joint Laboratory for Bio-Nanopharmaceuticals. Subsequently, on December 11, 2023, the China-Uruguay Joint Laboratory for Bio-Nanopharmaceuticals was officially inaugurated at our university. In May 2024, the joint laboratory was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Key R&D Program and was officially launched in July. To further advance the construction of the China-Uruguay Joint Laboratory for Bio-Nanopharmaceuticals, Qingdao Medical College and the School of Foreign Languages broke down disciplinary barriers and held a special discussion on promoting Medical Foreign Language Courses and the construction of Multilingual Medical Corpora.
Bian Jianhua and Ren He respectively introduced the disciplinary advantages of both sides and discussed the feasibility of cooperation. The meeting included information about the arrangement and teaching mode of the Medical Spanish Course at the School of Foreign Languages, as well as the cooperation and achievements with the Corpus Research Institute of Shanghai International Studies University. A strategic cooperation agreement is planned to be signed on July 14 to initiate the construction of a multilingual medical corpus. The importance of the corpus in literature compilation, formation of medical think tanks, doctor-patient communication, and medical education was discussed.
Attendees also discussed the development of a Professional-Plus-Foreign-Language Medical English/Spanish Course System, Scientific Research Cooperation between the Medical Department and the School of Foreign Languages, Student Exchanges, enhancing medical students' skills in international conference exchanges, and exploring medical collaborations with universities in Belt and Road Initiative countries, Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries, and African countries. The School of Foreign Languages will provide comprehensive language support.
The convening of this meeting marks an important step in the collaboration between the School of Foreign Languages and Qingdao Medical College in the construction of new liberal arts and medical sciences, particularly in the development of Medical Foreign Language Courses and Medical Corpora. Both parties will actively promote the implementation of various tasks, achieving mutual advancement and mutual benefits in talent cultivation, scientific research, local services, international exchange, and cooperation.
